The simple answer is YES! It is a requirement by law in order to declare your vehicle drivable or road worthy. Almost every state in the United States requires a car owner to have at least a minimum automobile liability insurance. Every state also has a financial liability law enforced which means that even if the state where you are residing does not explicitly require you to purchase a liability insurance, you still need adequate assets or resources to pay off claims in case you are responsible for an accident. In cases where you do not have ample assets, you need to buy at least the minimum insurance amount required in your state.
